Recovery Coaching for Women
Recovery isn't about Perfection. It's about Progress.
It’s Rarely About the Alcohol, Drugs, Food, Work (insert your coping mechanism of choice here)...
Most people don’t drink too much, overeat, over exercise or find themselves trapped in unhealthy patterns because they are weak or lacking willpower. They do it because they want to change the way they feel.
Under the umbrella of addiction sits many different coping mechanisms -
Alcohol.
Food.
The gym.
Work.
Shopping.
People pleasing.
Social media.
Even relationships.
Different behaviours, but often the same underlying need -
To escape.
To numb.
To feel better.
To feel something.
Or sometimes, to feel nothing at all.
Beneath these coping mechanisms there is usually something deeper.
Perhaps it’s menopause and the hormonal changes that suddenly leave you feeling anxious, overwhelmed or unlike yourself.
Perhaps it’s relationship difficulties.
Perhaps it’s childhood trauma that was never truly processed.
Perhaps it’s grief, loss or reaching an age where the death of parents or loved ones forces you to confront emotions that have been buried for years.
Perhaps it’s a mixture of all of them.
For many women, menopause becomes the perfect storm.
As oestrogen declines, the coping mechanisms that once kept difficult emotions hidden no longer work in the same way. Feelings begin to rise to the surface. Old wounds, grief, resentment, fear and sadness can suddenly appear without warning.
You may wonder why you’re struggling now when you’ve always been the strong one.
But perhaps nothing is wrong with you.
Perhaps your mind and body are simply asking to be heard.
There are many ways to skin a cat. Many ways to distract ourselves. Many ways to temporarily escape.
But when it comes to lasting recovery, there is only one thing that truly works.
Not running away. Not fighting yourself. Not becoming somebody else. Coming back. Back to your body. Back to yourself.
Back to this moment. Back to the Present.
Because healing doesn’t happen in yesterday.
It doesn’t happen in tomorrow.
It happens here.
At Rebel Alma, recovery is not about perfection or labels.
It is about understanding what lies beneath the coping mechanisms and learning a new way to live.
A life where you no longer need to escape.
A life where you can finally come home to yourself.
Back to the Present
The answer isn’t found in escaping.
It’s found in returning.
Returning to yourself.
Returning to your life.
Returning to what matters.
Because sometimes the greatest act of rebellion is simply coming back to the present.
Recovery isn’t about perfection. It’s about progress.
Recovery is about far more than simply stopping harmful behaviours.
It is about rebuilding trust with yourself and creating a life you no longer need to escape from.
As someone with lived experience of recovery, I understand that the journey is rarely straightforward.
There is no judgement here. Only honesty, compassion and practical support.
